Pedagogy

Little Learners Academy uses play-based learning methods to build independence, knowledge and basic life skills for its students. 


We help children learn and have fun in an English/French arts based environment! 

 

Details:

  • We accept children 2.5 - 5 year old (Born in 2016, 2017, 2018 & 2019).

  • We have 4 separate cohorts.

  • Your child will be registered in the SAME cohort for the entire season (3 Terms).

  • Each program has space for 9 children and 1 trained caring adult leader.

 

Sessions:

  • The 2 Mornings program
    [5 hours/week for 12 weeks]:

    Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:00am to 11:30am.

  • The 3 Mornings program 
    [7.5 hours/week for 12 weeks]:

    Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 9:00am to 11:30am.

  • The 2 Afternoons program 
    [5 hours/week for 12 weeks]:

    Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 12:00pm to 2:30pm.

  • The 3 Afternoons program 
    [7.5 hours/week for 12 weeks]:

    Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons from 12:00pm to 2:30pm.

Please note: a 5-day program is not available.

There is no option to attend our preschool for 5 consecutive days.


 

More Information:

  • Our program focuses on play-based learning where most of the children's time in the classroom is spent engaging in art, music, dance and play.

  • Parent/caregiver participation in the classroom is optional. Parents are also welcome to wait in the lobby.

    *Please note: We are not a daycare and we do not operate like a daycare.

    **Parents/caregivers are encouraged to stay on the premises or nearby. 

  • Every month leaders choose a different theme to focus on, such as "Seasons", "Thanksgiving", or "Flowers" and the toys, books, crafts, and activities are rotated to reflect the theme.

  • Leaders encourage sharing, cooperation, creativity, imagination, safe play and having fun.

  • Healthy snacks are provided and menus are shared with you upon enrolment and allergies and food restrictions are discussed.

A Day at PreSchool:

  • Every morning the class gathers for circle time that includes "show and share", where the child shares something special they've brought from home.

  • Circle time also includes lots of fun songs and actions.

  • From time to time special guests come to the classroom, such as a visit from a dentist during occupations week.

The 2 or 3 Mornings program:

  • 9:00am - 9:15am
    ➤ Arrival and free play.


    Children are free to play in any of the interest centres.

  • 9:15am - 10:00am
    ➤ Music Time in a Circle


    Children participate in songs, finger plays, action songs and simple games.

    The weather and calendar are discussed.

    Both French and English are used at this time.

  • 10:00am - 10:15am
    ➤ Snack Time


    Children are assisted with hand washing before snack.

    Snack is served at the snack tables.

    Children are expected to tidy their own snack dishes.

    Manners are taught in both French and English.

  • 10:15am - 10:30am
    ➤ Washroom time


    The children are assisted with toileting & hand washing.

    Parents/caregivers may assist their own child.

  • 10:30am - 11:00am
    ➤ Arts & Crafts


    Art projects are themed alongside the programming.

    Children will explore mediums like paint, clay & more.

  • 11:00am - 11:20am
    ➤ Movement & Dramatic Play


    Children will enjoy dance class, props and costumes.

  • 11:20am - 11:30am
    ➤ Goodbye & Thank you


    Children will help tidy up, sit in circle & discuss the day.

    Transition for pick up.

    Shake hands or high 5 upon departure.

The 2 or 3 Afternoons program:

  • 12:00pm - 12:15pm
    ➤ Arrival and free play.


    Children are free to play in any of the interest centres.

  • 12:15pm - 1:00pm
    ➤ Music Time in a Circle
